Pastor Dan Hermanson – MAY 2020

God is bigger than the coronavirus crisis

As of April 16, Grant County is one of the fifteen counties in Minnesota that have no reported cases of the Covid 19 virus. Congratulations and thank you for the way you are practicing hygiene, social distancing, and self-quarantine.

What we are experiencing during these challenging times is a health crisis, a family crisis, a community crisis, and a financial crisis. Through it all we trust that God is with us, that God has got this, that God is bigger than the coronavirus crisis.

The good news is that this crisis will come to an end. The curve has been flattened and there is talk about opening up society again. When that day finally arrives and we again gather in church for worship we will want to modify our behavior to prevent the spread of the virus and keep people safe.

Some suggestions we may want to consider are:

  1. Suspend greeter.
  2. Utilize the whole sanctuary including those dreaded front pews.
  3. Receive the offering by the door (or better yet our online e-giving using direct deposit) instead of passing the plates.
  4. No physical contact during the passing of the peace.
  5. Suspend or reduce the frequency of Holy Communion.
  6. Refrain from shaking hands at the end of the service.
  7. No coffee fellowship time.

If you feel sick, or have been around someone who has been sick do not attend church.

If you have additional suggestions or concerns please send them to me or to a member of the council to be considered.

We are in this together. We all need to deepen our relationship with God, each other and our neighbor as we continue to live out our Lord’s command:

Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest? He said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Matthew 22:36-40

Take care of yourselves, your family, and your neighbors. You are in my prayers,

~Pastor Dan
