Youth Group at Peace Grue Lutheran Church, Ashby MN

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Every Sunday, September through May
Peace and Grue parishes each have an active Sunday School for children ages three through 6th grade, taught by volunteers from the congregation. The kids get to learn about God's love, His role in their lives, and the stories of the Bible through lessons and crafts.

Sunday School children also provide special music at worship service on a regular basis. Members and non-members are welcome.

YOUTH GROUP

For grades 9-12
Peace and Grue, along with our Presbyterian friends, have formed a youth group for kids in grades 9-12. We meet at the Dan and Andrea Ness residence and start the evening with a light snack and visiting. Pastor Kent and Pastor Matt lead the youth in a discussion and fellowship is enjoyed.

We meet twice a month, the first and third Wednesdays, from 7:30-9:00 pm.
All youth in grades 9-12 are welcome to attend.

Proverbs 22:6

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

FIRST BIBLE

3rd and 4th Grade Students
The Peace Grue Parish gives 3rd graders their own bible and 4th graders a copy of Luther's Catechism. Students are recognized on a Sunday morning and then invited to the altar to receive their gifts.

FIRST COMMUNION

5th Grade Students
A class of instruction is given to Peace Grue Parish 5th graders prior to taking part in their first communion. On First Communion Sunday, students are recognized, given a certificate, and then invited to the altar with their family and friends to partake in their first communion.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

One Week Every Summer
Peace and Grue welcome children of the entire community to join the fun at Vacation Bible School in the summer. Themes vary from year to year but are always a blast.

Volunteer teachers and older students from the congregation help the kids enjoy fun times indoors and out while learning about the Christian faith. Music, crafts, food, fellowship, fun and faith...that's what memories are made of at Vacation Bible School!

CONFIRMATION (G.I.F.T.)

Grades 8 and up
New to Peace Grue Parish is a contemporary curriculum, traditionally called Confirmation, and now referred to as Growing in Faith Together (GIFT).
Pastor meets with the students on Wednesday evenings during the school year.

Parents and youth will choose when they are mature enough and ready to consider entering instruction, beginning as young as 7th grade, but not “automatically at grade 8”. Over the course of 2 or 3 years, longer if needed, they will experience and participate in opportunities accumulating credits of up to 450.

As in a university or college degree, there will be core/required courses, time with a Faith Partner, and plenty of hands-on learning through teaching, helping, serving, leading, witnessing, inviting, praying, and worshiping.

Classes and events become multi-generational as we learn together, share our faith journeys, and build relationships. There may well be several opportunities during a year for folks to affirm their baptism (the rite of confirmation) and make or renew promises to:

1. Live among God’s faithful people.
2. Hear God’s Word and share in His supper.
3. Proclaim the good news of God through Jesus Christ.
4. Serve all people, following the example of our Lord Jesus.
5. Strive for justice and peace in all the world.

Our overall goal is to help the baptized child “to identify more deeply with the Christian community and participate more fully in its mission.”
