The Call For A New Pastor

September 25th is Confirmation Sunday, a day long awaited by students and parents. Some people see this day as an ending: end of class, end of sermon notes, in some cases, end of attending church. Other people see confirmation as a beginning: entering into a new covenant with God, making promises about how we will live out our Christian lives in the years to come, stepping into a new role of taking adult responsibility in the church and in one’s own spiritual life.

The truth is that confirmation should never be a once in a life time event. The truth is that from the moment we are baptized we are either confirming or denying our relationship with Jesus every day and even every moment of everyday for the rest of our lives.

I confirm my faith when I trust in Jesus as my savior and seek to live my life for him. I deny my faith when I reject Jesus or fail to trust in him and live my life for me, myself and I.

Obviously we have all failed our Lord one way or another over the years. The temptations to go our own way are so numerous and irresistible, that we often fall on our faces.

Hopefully, our confirmation instruction has assured us , that even though we may fail Jesus at times, he never fails us. He is always there for us to hear our confession and forgive our sin.

After all, confirmation is not just about what we are going to do for God in the years to come, it is also a reminder of what God has done for us in Jesus and his promise to be faithful to us all the days of our lives.

May God bless and keep all of our confirmands in his grace and truth,

Your Servant in Christ,
Pastor Tom
